Tetra
[Thayeria sp.]
The Tetras
These
little guys are mostly space filler with the intention of a single
large fish, that doesn't eat as much, in the form of 10 little fish.
They don't have individual names for a couple of reasons; there's 10 of
the blighters, and they're impossible to tell apart.
They are all penguin (or hockeystick) tetras and are supposed to be very social and school up with each other... They don't.
Well
that's not entirely true. They do, but only when they're more afraid of
whatever is happening at the time than of each other. Otherwise they
spend all their time sitting around in the middle of their "territory"
and chasing away any other tetra that wanders their way. They have a
social hierarchy that puts the one at the top in the most desired
territory and the one at the bottom hiding in the most obscure location
viable.
However, when
startled sufficiently, by changing water or putting in a new filter,
they huddle and swim about together as one unit the way they're supposed
to.
